SFCM e.V.
Strong for cured muscles e.V. is a non-profit, registered association. We are trying to raise funds so that research projects can be realized that will lead to a cure for limb-girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMD).
We were founded on the initiative of patients and their relatives in order to enable clinical research and thus therapy for these rare diseases.
In the spring/summer of 2025, a first clinical trial will start to prove that this new method is also safe and effective in humans
THERE IS HOPE
There is legitimate hope to defeat this progressive and so far incurable disease!!!
What is LGMD?
Limb-Girdle-Muscular-Dystrophy
LGMD is a genetic disease
Affected is the limb girdle musculature
LGMD is progressive
Symptoms can occur at any age
Limb-Girdle-Muscular-Dystrophies (LGMD).
are a group of hereditary progressive muscle diseases affecting the muscles of the shoulder and pelvic girdle. These are severe muscle diseases that result in massive damage to muscle tissue. In the worst case, they can lead to death. As a rule, the ability to walk is lost, and in addition massive heart and breathing problems can occur.
The Max Delbrück Center in Berlin
At the Max Delbrück Center in Berlin, an institute of the Helmholtz Association and the Charitè, Prof. Dr. Simone Spuler and her team have been working for a long time on the development of potential therapies for muscle diseases.
MDC is currently the greatest hope in Germany for a gene therapy for people with muscle disease.
